Hello everyone, been lurking in the shadows for a spell. Spent alot of time reading the forums getting idea's and checking out some of the fine mills you all have. What a fantastic resource of talent and expertize this place has to offer.
I have spent most of my spare time in the last 4 months building a bandmill and i must say it's been a labour of love. I am so close to making sawdust that i can almost feel it in my eyes. The deck is complete, I have a rolling carriage on it and my saw head is 95% complete. One of the few things left to do it make and install saw guides. One thing i'm not sure of is were to position the guides in relationship with the blade. The think I remember reading they should be approximately 3/16" below the bandwheels but i'm not sure. I am running 19"-B pullies if that makes a difference. Could sure use some of that expertize now. ???

Thanks guys for welcoming to the forum. I will try to make a point of getting some pics up for you's to view. If this thing cuts half as good as it looks there won't be a tree safe for miles. I keep forgetting to take the camera to the shop (getting old i guess) Thanks Lud for the headsup on the search feature, I will definately use it. One of the other unknowns I must look into is how i'm gonna raise and lower the head frame. Been leaning towards a garage door spring or a 12 volt winch. The headframe weighs somewere between 6&7 hundred pounds(spring feasable??)(motor has 12 volt charging system) I seen both at a forestry show a month back, The garage door seemed to work great but the 12 volt winch model seemed really fast and the operater had a hard time stopping were he wanted to. I suppose this could be remedied by using a extra set of pullies to slow it down.Still undecided which way to go but I gotta make up my mind shortly.
