Thursday I was at the Oregon Logging Conference watching Frank Pender blow the air full of sawdust from the Mobil Dimension mill. Sure could tell that times are not to good, the display area was half of what it was two yours ago. A lot of the smaller companies or those farther away were not there.
Wood Mizer went all out this year and had every model of mill they make there, they even had the 300 set up and sawing. They had made some small changes to the LT 70, like changing the band wheels to a Vee belt pulley from solid steel. There was nothing that would knock you hat off. Nothing new from Baker. Hudson was there this your with two mills. The two mills from down under were there. Every body were making sawdust.

It is Sunday morning the day after 3 days of driving 180miles back and forth each day.  Wow! what a fun time.  I got to see some of my students I had not seen for of to 10 years.  One fella even came up and put his arm around my shoulder and simply looked down at me and said, "Hi ya, Pender." ;D  Dang near caused me to mess up a cut. :)  There were a total of about 15 or 16 of them critters that showed.  Like Don mentioned I was making the sawdust fly.  I had no time for pictures, though.   I think the biggest his was the pink lumber I was making from a couple of logs I had hauled to the show.  Most logs furnished are Douglas Fir or Western Red Cedar.  I hauled in 2 Fir, 1 Western Big Leaf Maple, 1 Port Orphred Cedar, and 2 Sequoia ( the pink wood). I am sure Sawmill John will be posting some sort of pictures.

Hey,is that your mill there Frank?Did you get a chance to mill up that big log on the truck behind you? 8)

That tin hat looks like it's been around awhile, and no large dents in it.You must be doing something right ;)

Science isn't meant to be trusted it's to be tested

Frank_Pender

You are correct, Paul.   The hat has been around for a while, about 35 years.  I wanted to get my hands on the og behind but the outfit that had the loader to hand her thought it best not to disrupt the conferenct due to a log theft. ;D   The mill belongs to Mobile Dimension.  It is their demo unit.  Mine are set up more on  permanent basis.  It was fun to have my hands on a new unit.   The only real difference was the par-buckling system they had attatched to this unit to load the logs more easily.  That is a one log load.  Diam. is 6' and length was 32'.  The taper was nill to the eye.
the log in the first picture is a Sequoia.  Not a very large one, however.   :'(   Thank you for the postings, John.
