I "inherited" a WoodMizer dry kiln the "DK8400"  It was a foray by Woodmizer into the heated kiln market that they did not pursue.  It has a boiler and heats the chamber with hot water via finned pipe.  The controls are computerized by O.S. Panto out of Italy.

I am having trouble getting it to start.  I think the computer is not telling the boiler what to do.

I have these questions:

Do any of you have/had one of these kilns.
Can I convert it to a manual kiln if the computer continues to give me fits?
Is there another kiln controller available on the market for a boiler driven dry kiln?

I have the kiln in a good location.  It is a real opportunity for me.  If the computer gives me trouble, like it is doing now...I want to know how to get away from that trouble.

Thanks

Most of the kiln manufacturers listed here can supply you new controls that will do a good job.  Contact any of them. The control that you have might be okay but they tend to be pretty delicate and difficult to service. If you can get it running for little money, go for it. But before putting serious money into it, you might be better off dealing with a USA company and getting new ones.

Don,

Thank you.

I had not thought of a new control mechanism other than going manual.  Your reply addresses my concern that getting service/support for the existing controls is going to be troublesome.  I certainly have the kiln facility.  I need to functionally manage it.

I hope a few others will chime in with ideas as well.
