I was thinking since the hardiness map is changing a bit that I might get some of those hard evergreen oak trees growing in my yard.
I think the Hardiness map is changing a bit. My BIL Ken has a White Oak Stand doing well for quite some time now in the upper reaches of Northern Maine. The stand is only a few hundred yards from the Canadian Border on the banks of the St. John River. :D
Oaks aren't supposed to grow that far north. The Book I have from Maine Forest Service dated 1981 says they grow as far north as Knox county. (Southern Coast) ;)

Go for it Modat22.  I am interested in the experiment.  Live oak does well as an ornamental, but maybe the snow would be DanG on it since the leaves don't fall in the winter.  I still have not heard how far north people have had success with live oak  ???.

yep I'm gonna give it a try, I'll do the sink test (to check for larva) and dip them in 200 degree water for the 30 seconds to kill any larva without killing the acorn. I've heard that it would be better to start these from acorns rather than transplant due to the extra stress of being in a different zone.
remember man that thy are dust.
