One time, we had a log that was checked just like that Redwood. I was afraid it would split all the way, so, bein in a remote location, I pulled a couple welding rods outta the truck, and fashioned a couple of wide staple lookin things. Cut the ends on an angle, so when ya drive 'em in the end grain, they would "pull" slightly on the split. Seemed to work pretty well.

  Might think about something like that, maybe, to help hold the split ???

  Got the idea from them "S's" they used on RR ties.
All truth passes through three stages:
   First, it is ridiculed;
   Second, it is violently opposed; and
   Third, it is accepted as self-evident.

Furby

That a trick question Burl ???
My house actually looks like a fort from the front, wouldn't be a far stretch to make it look like a castle.
Yup, got a moat at times, fish were indoors, but shall soon have some outdoors.

That slab sure would make a NICE drawbridge for the castle. :)
