We aint give a hat away in awhile, so here is potentially an easy way to win one.  I'm making something today. Here is a picture of the materials. What am I building? First answer I deem correct wins a hat. :)

We have a right answer.  Tom was sorta right but when he added for the front, that made him wrong. Beenthere wins a spare hat. Ya want me ta ship it or ya wanna pick it up? ;D

The boom I used before was really not the best. The neighbor let me use it, and it worked, but it was not a very good meter for the product. The nozzles were way to close and there were way to many. I am sure I was dispensing way more product then necessary due to repeated coverage of the spray. The thing was cumbersome as well. It was nearly 8 foot wide and could not be narrowed. You had to take it off to get down a trail. I'm making this one so it will stow in an up position for travel and have valving to be able to spray one side or the other or both. It will have 4 spray nozzles and will still spray 8 feet wide with a total boom width of around 6 foot.

Doesn't Tom already get a hat for his annual FF salary? ;D

Tom

No, I even have better than that!   I have a FF hat antique kit.  The older it gets, the better it gets.  Those new ones just devalue it.  ;D

Keep the pics coming, I need one for the tractor.
Lucky to own a WM LT40HDD35, blessed to have a wife that encouraged me to buy it.     Now that\'s true love!

I will. I'll document it and give a parts list and cost breakdown.  :)    I'm making my brother in law pay half so its only costing me about 25 bucks.  ;D

Jeff

Our pig roasts arent those kind of affairs. :)  They are family events.

I'll have to make one for my wedding anniversary. ;D

I'm kinda late gettin in on this, but I've got a empty keg I was gonna make a boom sprayer out of so I am VERY intersested in the parts list. :P

Jeff

I'm only making the boom here. We already had a 16 gallon poly tank sprayer with a 12 volt pump. It came with a wand sprayer.

Just a little advice .  Make that a dry boom if you make a wet boom with pvc some chemicals react with it and loosen the joints .  Just a little more hose and you will be set.

Jeff

It is a dry boom. Thats why there is a roll of clear tubing in the pats pile. ;)   The PVC is only a light weight carrior for the nozzles hoses and valving.

I'm still missing some needed parts to assemble. Not sure what to use yet for lock rings to hold the nozzles to the clamps.

Get the nozzle holders with the diaphram  so that they do not drip when you shut off the pump .  They have a quarter turn cap that makes cleaning the screens and nozzles a snap.

The first photo shows the pvc parts of the sprayer boom that are cemented together. the center length is 9 inches. Two pieces of 2" long 3/4 in pvc hook the two sets of tees together.  The tees that are placed together are 90° from each other. The pictures exlain it better then I can. :)

Parts that make up each nozzle.

Assembled nozzle mounted to one of the boom arms

Assembled spray boom in the "stow" position

Closer look at valving

Sprayer with just the left boom down with left valve turned on

Sprayer with both arms extended and both valves in the on position.

Here is the list of parts we used to make our spray boom, where we got them, and what they cost. I am sure you could probably put one together cheaper with odds and ends. Or you could spend a whole lot more if you used brass fittings and brass nozzles and tips.

The brass ball valves we used were the most expensive parts. You could eliminate them completely if you wanted. I wantd them so we could use one side of the sprayer or the other or both.

The sprayer mount is simplistic. You simply set the sprayer on top of the 20 inch "legs" I guess I'll call them and tie down your sprayer as normal.  The sprayer wont go anywhere, but if you happen to hit a tree or sign or something with the boom, the sprayer will just twist out the back with out destroying it.
