Well, I finally got off of the fence and bought that mill I've been wanting. It hasn't been delivered yet, but it has been paid for. I can hardly wait. 8) ;D :) 8) ;D :)

Yeah, pretty sneaky alright.   Now, which State was it he is going to cut up?

Okay, now that THE company has confirmed that they received full payment, I guess I can let the cat out of the bag. I know that some of my previous posts were a little on the subtle side when it comes to my thoughts about what kind of mill would meet my needs the best.

I have been wanting a mill that I could carry into a fenced back yard or other similarly difficult to access situations to a log and mill it in place. I wanted a mill that would allow me to do at least basic milling without absolutely having to have a bunch of support equipment. I also wanted a mill that could handle large urban trees and cut some large slabs.

This thinking process led me to the conclusion that I wanted a swing mill.

Over the last couple of years, I have asked some of the manufacturers of swing mills for literature and asked a number of questions.  All along the way, one company has been particularly patient with my persistent questioning.

I have also looked at used mill advertisements. One particular advertisement caught my eye a month or so ago. It seems there was a mill up in Maryland that was essentially a new mill that had been sitting there for awhile. The price had been discounted somewhat to move the product. That caught my interest even more.

So.............................................I bought it.         A N D it is a Peterson.............WPF..............10". 8) 8)

I decided to order a slabbing attachment from Timber Pro, another of our wonderful sponsors.

It will be a couple of weeks or so before this will all come together and I can finish my move to Missouri. I can hardly wait until I start my new job and the new mill arrives.  So much fun all at one time, I may not be able to survive. ;D

I will mostly be cutting lumber for the Ranch, see www.lucboys.org. I may cut some for myself and do some custom cutting for a bit of extra money.

I won't be building anytime soon. We will be living at the Ranch.

I am planning on staying in the U.S. for good unless God has another plan He has not told me about yet. We spent a total of about ten years in Japan. I very much like being able to read, write, speak, and understand the local language. I hope I can do that in southern Missouri. ;)

Congratulations, Jim! Everyone at work spread the word when you confirmed - you are a well known forestry forum pal here, and everyone immediately knew when the goss went around that JimBuis had finally done the deed  ;D So welcome to the Sawdustitis Club Sufferers. No, seriously, thank you VERY much for your business. And I hope it helps you in yours.

Congratulat Jim,

I think I know where you mill is coming from.... 8)

It is sitting in my back yard :D.

I'll snap some picture and post them for you to drool over... :D :D

Peterson sent me an e-mail on Thursday asking about shippers.  I'll let them know today which ones serve the Somthern Maryland area.

I think you will really like this mill, the electric winch is this best thing to have on a WPF, it saves a lot of time.  Now is the hard part, waiting on the truck to pull in to the drive and unload you mill.

Congratulations Jim,

I am sure you will like your new mill. You should be able to find someone around here that could answer about any question
you could come up with about it.

They talk kind of funny down there in southern Missouri, but you should be talking just like them in no time!
Have fun!

Okay now Ga_Boy, its not nice to tease a guy telling him you've got his mill in your backyard, talking about posting a photo, then making him wait for the picture. It is bad enough having to wait for the mill.

Ga_Boy, since you have that nice looking trailer, why don't you load up my mill bring it down to MO and give me some training on it? I'm sure we could arrange to fill your trailer up with some freshly cut lumber so you wouldn't be making the trip back empty. ;D
