This is what we have for breakfast the day after getting a deer.

Venison Heart. :) Soaked over night in salt water in da fridge, then rinsed, floured, seasoned with pepper garlic and onion and pan fried.

We also had some homemade granola.

That looks good. Mom roasted a stuffed venison heart once, I was the only one that liked it. :D

I have said it before and I will say it again. That's the best part of the deer. Next is the tenderloin.
Most of the guys in our camp will not even try it so I get most of them. ;D

Heart is one of my favorites also but unfortunately for me I'm the only one in my family....wait a minute that's not all bad. :D

Making me very hungry....I like the venison heart AND the liver...beats the liver of beef and pork all hollow. (but the elk liver is much better yet...and more of it).   ;D

Hey, I've been meaning to start a thread about innards, but I guess I don't have to now  :D  My dad used to pickle the venison heart.

The reason I wanted to start an innard thread had to do with the cleaning of them.  I've been bugging my neighbor to trade me some lamb for some lumber for a while now, and he finally brought me a lamb over last weekend, vacuum sealed in little packages  8)  The butcher also wrapped up the tongue, heart, liver, and (I think) the kidneys.  Don't know how much of that stuff I'll actually eat (although I do like beef tongue, so I'll probably cook that up), but do you have to do much to clean them before cooking?  What do you do to the heart, just slice it up and cook it?  My dad mentioned that kidneys need to be cleaned well...how in the world do you do that  ???  Still don't know if I want to eat 'em though  :-\

LeeB

I always heard that to cook kidneys you just gotta boil the p*ss outa them :D :D :D

That's reason #1 that I don't think I want to try them  :D
