Welcome to the Forum, york! I haven't built a mudsaw, but I don't think it would be terribly difficult. Our WM has one, although I don't use it, as it appears to defy proper adjustment. :D (A poorly retrofited retrofit) It uses a 12 VDC motor with the debarker wheel mounted directly on the shaft.

Yes WM will sell you one. but if you call us and want us to help you install it or you have an issue with it we would have a hard time tryng to figure out how to help you. It is designed and tested for a Wood-Mizer. Do you have an alternator? Is it large enough to run the 12 V motor. Will the saw head mounting handle the extra weight? These are some questions you need to ask. The wiring kit is extra and there are different kits for pre 1996 mills, the 1996 to current mills have the wiring installed from the factory even if they do not have the debarker installed. This helps they Wood-Mizer owner if he decided to install the Debarker option at a later date. There is also wiring for the Lazer, Lube Mizer Auto Clutch and Accusetall ready installed with the wiring when the mill is built.

Gee Marty, I have had to evict the mice out of mine so many times I wonder if that stuff is still there.  :D :D

I've had one of these on my "build" list, but it's way down - My mill being stationary in the barn, it'd be more bark, chips, etc to have to clean out. Last few years, dirty logs get powerwashed outside, 3 seasons of the year anyway. Dead of winter, I don't want to run the mill anyway. For me anyway, most of the time it would just be one more thing in the way on the mill, and I hate clutter.  :D

York, are you portable or statinary? I use a Logwizard on a Husky 55. I set the blades out a ways so it really digs in. I can open up a 6" wide slot the length of the log in 10-20 seconds with it. After I open up the first side, I turn 90°, open up that side, and then turn 180°. This way I only have to debark two opening faces. I don't know how access is on the TH, but on the Wood Mizer, the opening face is at a convenient hieght and reach when it is on the mill. I wouldn't want to try and debark the entire log with one, just the opening cuts. I debark all logs that go over the mill, and it more than doubles my band life. I have gone as far as 1200 board feet in pine before having to change out due to slowed cutting speeds. The log wizard will some times hit tramp metal on the outside of a log, before you saw into it, if you are lucky. ;) The down side to this is after a day of sawing out thick barked pine logs there can be quite a pile of debarker droppings to walk over, but it's better than hard concrete. Luckily the sawdust gnomes come in the night to take it away. :D

You can keep the mice out by stuffing the holes with steel wool. The newer mills have been designed to prevent mice from entering. But they still seem to get in places they should not be.  :o
