I have a 10 horse Briggs&Stration engine with a electric starte on my log splitter, I just added an elec winch to lift the logs and now I am concerend about how many amps I can draw out of the engine alternator before it burns up. Yesterday I measured it and the max was about 6 amps for a while then it dropped down to about 2 amps until the battery got charged back up  , do you think this will eventually burn up the alternator or it's output modual?

Thanks for any help

Is this one of the ATV winches? You should be alright as long as the battery is fully charged when using the winch and the pulls are short.

You might want to put a bigger battery or two batteries together. Then you would have more reserve capacity.
