Started using 055 blades on some hickory tie logs yesterday, we sawed over 1500bf on one blade then it broke, didn't like that it broke, but it sure cut well. These were some pretty ugly logs, but that big ole blade held up well.

That was my first experience with the .055 blade - except we were sawing some old hard white oak and as I remember, got even more board feet before it broke.

They said the trick is,  to take it off at about 700 bf and get it sharpened.  Then it will last 2 or 3 more re-sharps.

But you know what?  I don't think it too bad a deal to get that many board feet of good sawing in one of the toughest woods - even if it did break.

Yes they do,
I am using the 055 with a soft wood set and it will flat eat the pine.

Some times they pop on the first use, but I never get more than 2 rounds before they go.

I put a brand new .045" on yesterday, I was lazy and didn't want to sharpen one of the old ones.  It cut 248 feet of oak then I took a look at the new pine from my log trucker and said wow a choice bunch.  whoops choice whack!  Hit nails yes plural, nails all 6 penny but that new blade was still rarrin to go.  272 feet later when I scanned the next log and removed 6, count em 6 nails from the outside I said quit for now, take the new blade and maybe mount it on a trophy plaque or just sharpen it, but no more new ones for this whack.  new blades cut so sweet it is just a shame to metal them.
