Also looked at the gallery of pics on the Norwood site, and there is some great work shown. Appears that you also have a bed stead piece entered, and it is beautiful. No. 8 out of 185 shown. More pics of your rail system shown around 126-130 in the pics. That was an awesome project.

Thanks everybody, I was  shocked with placing first considering the entries, originality and design (which I had little to do with )  must have played a part in the judging because there were some mighty fine items entered.  The home that it is in was built with a nautical thyme, Birdseye Maple kitchen cabinets with rope molding and anchors, etched glass with scenes of Lake Superior and a vent hood in the center of the kitchen that looked just like the lighthouse newel posts.  A working waterfall over the fireplace, heartwood Birdseye Maple bar with all the trimings, The Wallnut/ curly Maple anchor bed and a whole lot more.   A must see if ya like that sort of thing.

That figured wood is stunning Bob.  I can see some Marquetry work in my minds eye with a ship's sail made out of that quilted maple or birch, makes it look like a piece of canvas with the ripple effect of the figure. Cool stuff.  8) 8) 8)

Ya were spoiled up here, we get ta hand pick our lumber from a mill that puts out 150,000 BF per day, at that rate yer bound ta find a few keepers.

I was talking to one of the lads who works for me and he said a friend of relative showed him a video of how they saw timber in the midwest. He said the wood they were sawing was hardwood ad over 30 feet long. It took two pay loaders to load them on the bunk. Said he never seen nothing like it before.  :D I said yeah, we never had wood that big here and that down there they shy away from stuff under 14" on the top end. Versus up here where they try to cut everything big enough to strap on the truck.  That log they were loading might be 80 years old down there and 300 years old up here with a nice big hollow for owl nests. ;D :D
