Here are some pictures of my mill I have been working on.  I have to install the motor and the guards and head lift to be finished.

You did great loading one....what seems to be the problem with the others??

Just remember to resize the pixels first, and follow by getting the file size right.

Doing it in reverse, often yields a small pic with a large file size (or a decent size pic with a file size too large for the forum).

No I have not run one before, but I have been doing a lot of reading on this forum and soaking up the information.  This is one of my retirement projects and I have really got into it.  A lot of nights I went to bed and layed there and thought about how I was going to do this, and it would come to me.  I have restored a couple old jeeps and a Farmall Cub( check my website) but this project has been far more challenging and required more brain work.  My wife tells me I will not have to worry about getting alzeimers(?)  since I do all this thinking, keeping my mind busy.  I live in the Missouri Ozarks and the timber is plentiful, but I am interested in sawing cedar.  Thanks for the concern.  Dan

Looks real good, Saddlemaker.  Getting information as you go is a good thing.  That way you always have options as to what will work for you.  When are you going into mill production :)?  Oh, in case you forget, with one of these there is no retirement ;) :D
Always liked wood with alot of character

Dan,

Nice workmanship. Will it be portable or stationary?
I am approaching retirement and got interested in mill about 8 yrs ago as a retirement activity/hobby. I did not build mine but made a lot of modifications to put my mark on it. It must be even more satisfying to build it from scratch.
Keep us posted.

Looks great.  Hard to tell from the pictures but the wheels look like they are bigger diameter than most?  What size are they?

Good looking hunk of machinery.  I envy your metalcraft.  Tell us about the parts.  I'm especially interested in the bandwheels.

Update on mill:  Today was test day as I sawed 3 cedar logs.  The saw performed perfect.  I even cut some 1/4 inch thick boards.  When I moved it out of the shop my son, brother in law and myself aligned the track and then set everything on the head as near perfect as possible (everything being bolted together with adjustments) I started the old Briggs 8 hp and off we went.

My band wheels are 19 inch with B 56 belts, I ordered the guides from Cooks, the motor 8 hp Briggs and Stratton with hand clutch, but ordering a slip clutch this week.  I am using plywood covers right now, but the blade ran  and tracked perfect.  The reason the wheels look bigger is because of the camera angle.  I will post another picture of the completed mill soon.  Thanks for all the encouragement.  Dan

WOW!  Now THAT's a red letter day if there ever is one!  Congratulations, Saddlemaker!  It must have been a thrill to see it not fly apart when entering that first cut, eh? :o :D :D :D  Can't wait to see the pics. ;D

That is a nice feeling the first boards that come off from your hard work!  I built a mill a couple of years back and have sawed up the lumber for the house I live in.

Must be a great feeling to mill wood with a mill you made yourself. My congratulations to you.
