Wanted to add that it should be covered with fiberglass so fire can't spred as fast and keep the Ins. co. happy.

Hmmm....I see a solution.  Order a bunch of tools and sawmilling toys and stuff, and use the packing peanuts for insulation.  and when the wife asks, all ya gotta say is, honey I need it for the free insulation they send. smiley_lit_bulb

Ran across this AgriMetal bedding chopper, that might work well for the insulation. They rent these locally around here, for chopping hay/straw bales for covering new grass seeding.
Might work well for ya.

This was on craigslist today.

Thanks BT - something like that would probably be ideal.

Scott,

The thought path I was going down was trying to feed it through your planer then suck it up through the vacuume system. Place an extra section of hose on the discarge end of the blower and blow it into the walls.   The pieces would have to be big enough and uniform thickness to go through the planer.........

Maybe the leaf mulcher is the best idea then hook up your vaccume blower up to its discharge and blow it into the walls right from the mulcher.  Two guys.... handle it once.

Chris, I think that you've got a good point here.

Re the planer, I think that I'll be better off with larger chunks of insulation, rather than the shavings.  My problem right now is that the chunks are so large, and so unusually shaped, that there will be too many air voids in the wall.
