A person here in Oregon is trying to sell me some redwood logs.
I can't find any prices for redwood any where.
These logs are huge and would have to be split with a chainsaw.
A lot of work as I have done this before with oak logs.

There are about four thousand BDF in them.

How much should I offer him?
Need advice please.

There is a person out of Salem that is trying to give away about 40 trees, no clean up or stump removal but they are still standing. I plan to take a faller with me and see about putting about 20 of them on the ground and mill them on site. Then down south, there is another person that has hauled in a bunch of #3 and cull logs in from California and he wants $10.00 bft. You could find a happy medium in there somewhere.
Another way of setting the price is take the local cedar price and shave a little off it as a non standard species, as the local mills will not buy Redwood, and then deduct for over sized logs that require extra handling. Buy your logs in 32' lengths as they do have tapper, and grade heavy on the knot sizes. Other words do not pay top peeler price for a #2 saw log. If cedar is going for $1,000  for 1,000 bft, $500 a 1,000 for over sized knotty logs would be high.
Another option is buy it by the ton.

Tree removal is saving the homeowner the hassle of cutting them up into firewood and a single tree reduces the value from that of a Load of logs delivered to the mill. Not to mention the threat of metal. In a case like that the value of log has been sustainably reduced to the point that it should be free or they should be paying you for your time to remove it. An exceptional tree with at least two #1 saw logs would be worth $100 and your time. However if the limbs came clear to the ground then best grade that you will be getting is a #2 or #3 saw log which will yield very little "DECK BUILDING" lumber, and you will be fighting spike knots.

What sizes do you plan to mill the lumber into? Do you have an order for the wood or are you just adding to your stock? Are the logs positioned so that you can mill them where they lay or will you have to have equipment to move them?  It all comes down to how bad you want the wood from the tree as to what you offer for the terms of removal.

I usually pay between 40 and 60 a ton. Depending on how clear and if there is some curl.
With this great economy I would start at 30.00 a ton. Your paying the loading and Hauling.
good luck

These logs are probably Giant Sequioa.  Before I sold my mill I quit taking them.  They are hard to market.  If you have to quarter them with a chainsaw you should get them for little to nothing.  The wood is not as weather resistant as cedar or coastal redwood.  It is soft and you will have bark inclusions aroung the knots.   It does have an interesting color when you mill it (blood red)  it them darkens to a brown.  I have cut deck material and used some in my cabin for flooring because I couldn't sell it.  Matt,  who bought my mill still will cut it but he doesn't pay much if anything for it.  Frank Pender cut some and dried it and made inside t&g paneling.

I would have thought that would be a use.  Redwood mills really well into trim woodwork.  Painted or otherwise 4/4 for trim would be a possible market also.
