Hi,

I know this is going to cause some eyeballs to roll upward,  but here goes....

I want to build some stone walls and I found a fella who will sell me a pallets of
wall stone and arrange to bring it over on a flat bed tractor trailer.  The problem is
that I dont have a skid steer or a tractor with forks to unload  the pallets of stone.
I dont really want to go to the expense of renting a skid steer just for the
unloading.

Is there a way to get them off when you dont have hydraulic equipment.
I thought if I built a ramp and used a come along, I could get them off but it would
be real slow.  Maybe an electric winch or some other way.

Thanks,

Tim

If the trucker has to wait to get unloaded he wont be happy. I'd rent a skidsteer or forklift or maybe you have a friend with one.  Then you can get the stone close to where you need it also. If you get a lift or loader make sure it can lift 2 tons, smaller skid steers wont.     Steve

Trucks here delivering pallets of stone have either a boom, or the tag-a-long fork outfit hanging off the rear of the trailer.

But good to figure out how before they arrive.  :) :)

That sounds like it will be very time consuming and frustrating.  Not to mention dangerous. I don't think your truck driver will go for it.

Around here, one can hire a fella with a tractor or skidsteer for a reasonable amount of $$ per hour.  Save your back for the hard work of laying that stone.

Why not just 1 pain free day?

If the stone monger is going to hire a truck to deliver it, just tell him to hire one with a piggyback forklift, and offer to pay the difference, if any.

You can afford a semi of wall stone ,but not skidsteer rental for  a day ?

Thanks guys,  I am working on getting a guy to stop by with a
skid steer and unload it for me.  But I had to check with the experts
in moving heavy things first.

I really like the idea of " big tree, thongs tongs ( see how easy it is for one little letter to slip in and mix up the meaning of a sentence  ::) ) and a chain    8) 8) 8)  A camera is also needed with this technic  ;D
