If your state allows towing two trailers, can a woodmizer sawmill and edger be equipped to tow behind one vehicle?

I've towed many double trailers. My understanding of the laws is that the first trailer is required to be a fifth wheel or goose neck trailer. So without changing to hitch on the mill it would be against the law. On the other hand I see many bumper pull trailers/campers going down the road with a boat or a golf cart being towed behind them on another trailer.

I see lots of fifth wheel campers with a boat behind it.  I can imagine there is no backing up.

I think it will be best if the tow vehicle is heavy!  all need appropriate tongue weight.

I guess you could use a set-up like this picture shows.  Replace the camper with your sawmill and the ATV trailer with your Edger...

That is not legal in many states, as mentioned most that allow double towing require the lead to be a fifth wheel. We see the occasional out of province driver trying it but they don't get far, it is strictly enforced.

If it is for local and you can go back roads best.  i have a log splitter and a wood trailer that I take to "camp Alaska"  every year.  i hate to make 4 trip about 40 miles one way.  i had the log splitter on behind the wood trailer.  at highway speed the log splitter started going back and fourth and looked like it was amplifying it own oscillation, and might have rolled over if i kept going.  the middle toe vehicle needs to be heavy, and all need a fair amount of tongue wt.  even then, you may be leaving something on the road to return for.  If you try it out, go slow to start and not to far from home.  they do make some stabilizer struts but sounds like a lot of work for saving a trip, especially if you are not going far.

Thanks guys.  I forgot to notifly myself with a post alert.

It is legal here in Texas.  I was just wondering if I would have to modifly one of the rigs to tow the other, or was there something already out there to purchase.  Guess it would have to be modified.

Just thinking out loud for now.   Something tells me, in the future, when I add the extension to my sawmill, I will need another mill for mobile milling.  Guess I could leave the edger at home.

If you are considering a 2nd mill for mobile work, consider getting a swing blade.  Don't need an edger, or even a trailer if you have a pickup with a ladder rack, and can saw those logs that are too big to transport / cut with the WM. Having both mill styles gives you the best of both.
