Maple is my guess, too.  I am not good enough to tell you a specific type of maple.

My guess is white birch even though I don't really think so.  The lighter colored wood appears to be a bit on the dark side.  usually has a very blonde color.

If you would give us a better picture of the bark maybe we could be a bit more educated with our guesses.  ;D   ;)

It sure isn't ERC like the piece that Cedarman stumped us on at the Pig Roast  :).

My first thought was persimmon because of the black knot.

My first guess was a board but I guess you fellers is gonna be more tcknikal than that.  :D
