Got pics...went to a buddies place....he has the delux 10 grand puter...he's a pro and does puter stuff everyday. ::)

Buddy scans pics and tells me that the forum is wrong with the 350 pixal thing ::) Buddy e-mails pics which take forever as they are so freaking big........

Try to post pics but the optimizer won't make them small enough :o

Tried everything and I STILL can't get these pics to look good :P

When I can get them to post they look like crap :(

  Should I

  a) give up and go to bed???
  b) shoot myself in the foot for trying so hard???
  c) stay up for a few more mins and brag to the guys at work that I've been up all night???
  d) call the customer and say that I'm sick and then hit the liquor cabinet??? :D :D

These pics were developed on mat paper, would that screw things up ::) :P

K gotta go but will be back in a few hours.

Biz,

Welcome to my life... :D

This kind of frustration is what I have dealt
with for 28 years in order to put meat on the table.
This is why I have a sawmill to unwind after a day
at the office.   We were lucky last night.  Our server
changes started at 6:00 PM were finished by 8:30 PM.
Normally we are here till 1:00 AM and sometimes all night.

Then we are supposed to be at our desks at 7:30 AM
with a cheery smile on our face helping other people
get their jobs done.  >:(

Perry,
Something tells me you manage to do that more than not.

Whitep,

I just want to know when you're going to step up to the plate and get one of those new Orange Wood-Mizer's with that Yellow Cat engine?

He probably scanned them at a high resolution. Also could be using a lot of colors. I have a file scanner and can easily produce 60-70 MB files (not KB) from negatives at 4000 dpi. You want 72-90 dpi since that is what most monitors display. If you scan at 180 then 1 inch of 180 dpi will display as 2 inches on the the monitor (90dpi).

I use Adobe ImageReady to prepare my pictures. The first thing I do is change the size from 2464 pixels to 350 (the digital camera I use for most of the pictures I post here is about 2 MB). Then I use the optimizer to adjust the JPG quality to get the size below 15KB. For some reason I have to go below 14.5KB because the size must be rounded up or something and the Forum won/t take the picture if it is say 14.7KB.

Don't feel bad if you have trouble controlling image size from a scanner. I've been working at it for about 8 years and still don't understand all the variables.

K I'm back in the office, kidlett is at school and I have an hour to myself. 8) Met a very nice lady in the school parking lot and I'm gonna meet her for coffee in a few mins. :)
Customer has called twice.......I'm not answering the cell ;)
This life juggle thing is hard :o :D :D
Hey Mark that makes sense 8) Can I send you a pic to see what you can do with it???

Sounds to me like your bubby is the one thats wrong. I agree he is scanning at to high resulation. If he is scanning at something like 1200 dpi your picture could end up being 3'x4'  instead of 3"x4".
I scan almost everything at 72 dpi.

Haytrader

biz,

Sounds like this "new"  parkin lot friend is passive agressive.
(my wife works at a mental health clinic so I am an expert..... ;))
So, how did dinner go?
Will she be helping you (edited by author)

Biz,
I like your boat.  Put on some more pictures as you progress.  Have sailed Snipes, Lightenings, Rhodes 19, and few others.  Always wanted to build my own boat and do it the hard way.

Haytrader the dinner was great and everything after that was cool to 8) It was nice to get out for a change.

Larry I think I'm gonna set up a page where I will post some pics of the boat. This boat is a proto type of the real thing, gonna build a much bigger one next year. This is a gaff rigged boat with a fixed keel and it even has a steering wheel 8)  Fi-b-glass over wood and a hinged mast. Got the plans off a guy in Cal and have spoken to him a few times and he seems to be a very cool guy.

Here's a shot of the other end of the boat. Will get better pics when we get it out of the shop and on the trailer 8)

Biz,

I like your boat.  It is very similar to a gaff rigged 16 footer a friend and I built some years ago.  We got the plans from a gentleman in California that was featured in a Popular Science article.  The article said 'build this boat in three weekends for $300.'  We modified the plans and two years and $3,000 later had a very nice little boat.
