Hydraulic question on firewood processor idea

I am trying to put my ideas together on building a hydraulic firewood processor.   I had a question about the hydraulic cutoff saw that I hope someone can help me out with.   Do you know if you can use a single spool valve with a flow divider to power the hydraulic motor and the ram to lower the bar at the same time.  I was wanting to try to use a single spool valve that once you engage,  the chain begin to spin and the ram will push the bar down.  Also what about a one way check valve in the hydraulic line feeding the chain motor, this would prevent the chain from reversing when lifting the bar back up.   Any information is greatly appreciated.

I got a question too.

I was wondering if there is something between the lowering and raising cylinder and the saw bar like a spring or away to control the lowering speed? I have never been around a firewood processor but I was wondering if the cylinder was connected direct it would push too hard and cause it to slow too much or bind.

It will work BUT.............You need enough flow and pressure to operate both at maximum use.

That's how my Block Buster is built  :)

On our Blockbuster, one vavle runs the saw chain and the clamp arm AND the lowers and raises the saw chain bar.   Pretty smart valve.   smiley_scholar

Yup pretty smart  8)  Pull the lever and the log gets clamped first and then cut off.  I looked one machine that seemed to have more control than functions  :)  Looked purty DanG confusing to me  ;)  Mine has a splitter, saw & clamp, log trough, live deck, and splitter wedge height controls.

It sounds like the Blockbuster uses the single valve for the clamp and the chain and another for the lifting and lowering of the cutoff bar.   I was curious if they used a flow divider for the one valve between the clamp and chain or a flow control?   All information is appreciated.   When I start the project (this winter) I will posting the progress along with pictures.  I was able to successfully build a fully hydraulic sawmill, so I hope I still have it in me to build a hydraulic firewood processor.  I appreciate all the information from above, and any additional information others may have.
