I am thinking about getting a chain grinder but don't know much about them. I want bench mount, 120v. Looking for good one but not sure which are good and which are priced too high for the quality delivered. Please give makes and models. My use will be just to sharpen for own use, I get good sharp chains using a file but arthritus bothers me when I sharpen even one, and 2 or 3 is totally out of the question without doing a few teeth and going to another project, then return and do a few more teeth. Too much time wasted. I mostly want a good quality entry level grinder from a good company with a reputation for good products. Oregon? Some other?
Thanks,
Dave

I have this one from Bailey's ( actually the previous model )

I just did 45 chains last Monday and it worked pretty good  8)
Some probably should have gone around twice ....

I like my Stihl USG.  No weak points that I have found on it. Built like a brick you know what  ::).

Corley5 and I both have MAXX sharpeners. Last I talked to him, we where both still happy with them.

This is the same model that I used in my shop for years. They worked and lasted really well. We probably did on average 10-15 chains a day, five days a week all year and the sharpeners would last about three years. Many of those chains were from customers who apparently didn't know that saw chains aren't for rocks and nails, and that they should be sharpened "before" they stop cutting......... It was never the motors that wore out, it was all the pivot and slide/tension points that wore from the abrasive action of the stone grit and metal filings.

Now I know I'm gonna start a ruckus here but so be it. I have one of the cheap harbor freight grinders ($29.95). Used with it's limitations in mind, I like it. It's not for a service shop where you grind a dozen chains a day, but for the average user, use it to touch up chains before they get dull dull, it works well. There's a bit of a learning curve to learn how to work within it's limitations. I guess you could say it's more of a "touch-up" grinder. The limitations are mostly related to somewhat flimsy plastic frame...Motor and grinder rock are OK.

Maple Flats,Silvey chain grinders are probibly the best you can buy but their the price of a good saw,I doubt you could wear one out.Only problem I have with mine is a gritty taste because of the big grin running it.Its american made ,the way machinery used to be made.Frank C.

I got a MAXX grinder last month.
Well built, takes a little to get everything just right.
Made sharpening a lot easier.

Mine's a Speed Sharp Auto, from Bailey's. It's Italian made and the quality is definitely there. The "auto" refers to a hydraulic clamp that tightens as you lower the grinding wheel. For the few extra bucks it's a huge time saver.

boss has a silvey grinder $900 for it and u have to change the stop on the cutters different from the left to the right side i figured 900 u would have to do that . we are disapointed on the that point . i like my harpor frieght grinder better because u cut left to right side no adjustment . and only 39.99 . he said that the grinder has always done that new all 3 of his silvey grinders to it .

Got an old Foley that I found at yard sale for 20 bucks.  That was over 20 yrs. ago and it's still doing a great job.  I guess a buck a year for a grinder aint bad. :D :D
Always liked wood with alot of character
