The hydraulics just stopped working entirely. I started the unit on a cold day to push snow, raised the bucket to dump the forks and click, no hydraulics, since everything on this tractor operates off the front pump, no power steering, no three point hitch, and no bucket action. I installed a new(rebuilt pump) last fall and it has been working great. The system has no leaks. This pump has an electric solonoid on it and I wonder if this may put the pump into by pass or something. Any one have ideas on a solution? This 1975 loader has been my workhorse for loading logs on my mill, etc. and with bucket forks moves my lumber as well.
Any help would be appreciated.

If it is a vane pump, sometimes in frigid weather you can "domino" the vanes. It happened on my IT80 Clark lift a few years back. Fortunately it did not contaminate my system w/ the broken vanes.

Is this tractor similar to a '73 Deere 301?

I'm not sure if if that is the same as a rubber tired backhoe but if it is then some of those had a cold start kick out on the pump.It was put there to stop pump flow until the engine started and released when the engine was running. You could try unpluging the solonoid and see what happens when the engine is running.

Theres a good chance its not bad but given some of my experience I wouldn't totally rule out the possibility that the pump is the problem.   I have now had two pumps I bought go bad almost immediately (actually one was immediately) right out of the box.   One was a vickers vane pump for a Franklin blade and steering and the other was the main pump for my log truck's loader.   That one the guys that put it together just flat made a mistake and had it set up backwards.   Hard to believe but I've been through it.

That and the solenoid is most certainly where I would begin my investigation.

some jds use a gear pump in the transmition to feed the pump up front. . the pump up front is a piston pump.if gear pump is bad pump up front will not work. Good Luck
