What I get a kick out of is "couldn't withstand the unusually cold winter of 2010".  :D :D

Looking at the climate data for southern UK, there were lots of winters below freezing. For January the average low was -0.3 C in Heathrow, which isn't unusually cold according this page when you go back before 1990. Much has been attributed to the jet stream moving north. It just decided to come back down south a few days this winter. The thing about the jet stream is it was only discovered in WWII during the Pacific campaign. ;)

Oh, they keep spreading the word. ;)

Does Al Gore know about this?! :D :D It sounds like it was a combination of the creek rising and the cold weather- the ice cracked it, I guess.
I hope my ship comes in before the dock rots!

Looks like it would make a lot of firewood.

Tom

Before they chop it up and burn it, I hope that some enterprising young fellow gets it and turns it into a bunch of history relics o commemorate the life of the tree.  A tree that size could make him a millionaire, several times over.

It's awfully cold this winter Tom. They might need the firewood far worse. :D :D
