I noticed there are chainsaw modifications that are done to make your chainsaw run and perform better.  I have a new stihl 440 and a mcculloch (1998) pm10-10s. Are there any modifications to either  of these chainsaws worth doing or if it's not broke don't fix it. I've read about the mufflers being restrictive, etc. Just wondering what you all think. Dave

A modified muffler helps a little as does a foam oiled air filter. At least for the 440. You can get the stuff from baileys //www.baileys-online.com
I do know that with a foam filter you need to keep it clean because it can pass dirt if it gets full where as a paper type will just clog.

Yes I have the baileys catalog and have seen that upgrade filter but wasn't to sure about it. Actually I had forgot about it till you mentioned it. Thanks alot!!  Dave
