I don't know much about how Carfax works as far as subscribers goes, but I am looking at a truck and wonder if someone who has unlimited Carfax could look up this VIN. It it doesn't work that way, never mind.  ;D

VIN: 1GTHC24U86E150047

There is no need to say 'unleaded regular gas'. It's all unleaded. Just say 'regular gas'. It's not the 70s anymore. (At least that's what my wife tells me.)

DouginUtah I can't help you out on your search but you might want to see this before you buy based on Carfax report.

there is a link to a clip near the top right.

Public TV is good for something.

Thanks, Hilltop. That's one reason I didn't want to fork over $35 for a report. I was hoping to see a report just for history's sake.

Now that I have told the guy I will buy it I have to wonder what maintenance has been done on it. No way to tell when spark plugs were last replaced (if ever), when transmission fluid was replaced, fuel filter, brake shoes, etc.  Guess I'll find out about the brake shoes when I take it in for the safety inspection--I'm guessing brakes wear out before 100K miles but hopefully not before 50K.

I used this service once and it gave me information. The problem was that it only gave information based on service done at a dealership. Work done by a local mechanic does not appear. I trust my local guy a thousand times more than the local dealership.

Yep, I made a snap decision on a car based on a Carfax report once.  I got info, but all of it was false.  The "clean" report omitted the fact that the car had been in a major accident.   >:(

Carfax is nothing but a money scheme for the owner of Carfax.

I missed this one......... Sorry Doug.
We use Auto Check a lot here for total loss appraisals. Same thing as Car Fax but differnt company behind it [Equifax]. Plus we get more reports for the buck.
Like anything else it's only as good as the info that's fed into it. It helps more than not. Carfax mines info from not only DMV's and Insurance Companies but they get it from dealers too in many cases.
Because of Car Fax our diminished value appraisal work has doubled. They were backed by major insurance co's in the beginning who wanted to be able to track vehicles history better. Now it's bit them in the butt on the value diminuation side of claims.
