Maple Sewing Chest

I am tryng to get y'all to post some pics of your woodworking projects so that I don't appear to be so narcissist about posting pics of stuff I have built  .

Hopefully having to open this and read it will aggravate you so that you will post some woodworking pics. 

Anyway, my wife wanted to put a chest in the back of our closet for all her sewing supplies, so I made her one out of red maple.  I really enjoyed working with the red maple.  It is not as soft as many are led to believe, having about the same specific gravity as black walnut.  She wanted the drawers to all be the same size, but my woodworking instincts rebelled at that, so I cheated and made them graduate in size from the largest on the bottom to the smallest on the top by a little bit.  It is not so much that she has really noticed .

Yes, between the racks of clothes on each side.  It is probably a mite over-done for being hidden in a closet, but one day, it might resurface  .

Nice sowing chest. Your wife must do a lot of sowing.  ;D She needs to bring that out of the closet to make room for all that sowing.

It might not sow much seed, and it would be hard to hook up to a tractor, but an enterprising individual like yourself could surely figure out how to make it work ;D.

Of course, she just might be satisfied to put thimbles and bobbins and that type of stuff in it and forego the sowing  .

How great it would be to have dressers like this for my bedrooms.  So many windows make for little room for dressers.  It looks great!  My husband just might have to make me some this size.  He hasn't made dressers in quite some time.  Can't wait to show him.

Let me know if you need dimensions.  The sewing chest of drawers will fit in a narrow space.  We put it in the closet, but it only stayed there one day.  My wife said it turned out to be a little too big for the closet for her taste, so now it is in the bedroom.  Looks like I will need to build a smaller one for the closet  .

Danny, any thoughts on a solar kiln?

Oh yes.  It is going to happen soon.  There was a young guy that I was letting live on the old homeplace that I inherited from my parents.  The plan was to use the old house to store the kiln dried lumber, but until I could use the old house for that purpose, I did not want to build the kiln and not have a good place to store the lumber.

As luck would have it, about 2 weeks ago, a big ash fell on the electrical service line into the old house as the result of a bad thunderstorm.  The tree was quite large, and it managed to snatch the entire electrical service off the side of the house, the masthead, the meter base, etc.  Because it is so hot, the young feller had to move out until we could replace all that stuff, and he is not planning to move back in because I had already told him that I had plans to use the old house to store lumber. 

A plan has been set into motion  .
