Does anyone know, a bands life must be shorter in fridged weather, they have to get more brittle and prone to cracks as the temp drops.?? Frank C.

I only saw down to 0 f  and haven't noticed any difference. I'd think the band warms up some after hitting the wood.  Steve

I do some sawing in the great northeast cold and have not seen any premature band falure, I have a problem with the sawdust refreezing on the cant and not wantig to be thrown out the chute, but I am also using 10deg blades I have been told that a 7 or a 4 would help

more adapt to have band breakage from brain freeze(human error) failure, than cold weather band failure.cleaning the wheels from frozen debris while changing blades is more important

This pretty much conferms my own experiance quess the small changes to temp that make us uncomfy means little to the band steel.I do know that headsaws don't like to be frosty.Frank C.

It was about 36° down here near the gulf coast the other morning and I did not notice any adverse effects from the extreme cold on my bands.  But, I will continue to keep an eye pealed.

Extreme cold to me is in the 20's, and I don't flex too well then.  ;)

Anyone ever start a bonfire a little ways off from the mill and keep it going with the slabs?  Seems like a nice way to keep warm if the wood will burn, and the wind is blowing the right way! 8) 8) :o :o

Typically, when the temperature falls below -40 (F or C), steel starts to become quite brittle and will fatigue fail more easily. You probably wouldn't be sawing in that situation ;D.
