Hello: Don't post much, but do get to read some good info- on the forum,
A friend of mine drives a truck & picked up a load of 5/4 boards in Fl,& hauled them to Ala,When he arrived the place he carried them to rejected them(along with 3 other loads) because of pink mold,He said the ends of the boards had a pink tint to them,
I was just wondering what in the cat hair is pink mold? Also why would they reject it?
Thanks Mark,,,,

Sounds a lot like yellow birch stumps that were cut in winter and in the spring the sap weeps from the stump and a fungus gets on it (and flies) and it turns pink.  Now in your case, I don't know if that happened to logs that may have laid a short while in heat. I can't imagine it going into the wood much and causing rot, but it may be a sign of incipient mold to come in the lumber and causing blue stain or develop into spalt. I would assume the lumber was kilned before it left the sawmill, in which case it would halt the staining process. But, maybe it's sopping wet.

Without seeing a picture it's impossible to know for sure but -
"Pink Mold" is a fungus that can grow on the ends and edges of cut wood. It's often associated with improperly kiln dried lumber...could be why they rejected it.
Donk, I wonder if the pink color you are referring to is caused by a yeast (which is a fungus, just not often fluffy).
The pink mold bama posted about should have been fluffy and not "liquidy"

Jim, it's possible. I won't rule it out. ;D

Jim: you are right about the color(pink) it was on the end grain part of the wood.
He said the fellow at the place he del- it to pointed it out to him.
I was wondering though why one place wouldn't take it & the other did?

Not being in the business myself, I haven't the slightest clue why one place wouldn't take it but another would.
