I have a pile of kiln dried  7ft x 17" x 5/4 clear flat cherry boards.   What kind of board foot price can I expect to get for these?   The local suppliers are charging $8 bf for 10" wide select 5/4.    I was thinking that flat clear 17" stuff should bring a fair bit more but don't have clue of what to ask as a starting price.

At $8/BF, each of your boards is $100 apiece.  That is not too shabby.  I guess it depends on how fast you want to move it.

In todays poor economy you might at well build your coffin out of it cause at that price you'll die with that stack of cherry.

I can't sell cherry for $1.50 a bf. Maybe I need to find different customer base. Last customer thought .80 cents a BF for eastern white cedar was too much.  ::) I told him if he can buy it cheaper then all the best. I'm sick of giving lumber away.

Times are hard, but if somebody is willing to pay $8 for 10" stuff, then you ought to be able to get at least that for hard to find wide stuff. The thing is to find out who wants it and can pay for it. Who buys cherry in the first place? You might have to stop in at every cabinet shop, wood shop, etc. in your place and get to know the people and tell them what you have. That could take a long time especially if you do this as you have time. If you can afford to wait on it, take your time. You will find your buyer. You may have to research every part of the cherry market to find your premium buyer. If there is a woodworkers club or guild in your area, that is probably the first place to check. We have one here in the area with over 400 members. They're always looking for "good stuff."

DR_Buck...In my neck of the woods I sell wide cherry for $6-$8bf. It sells slower compared to normal 6"-10" wide material but it still sells over time. I guess it just depends on how quickly you want to turn it over.

Jason_WI...I was just up by you last week. If you're selling cherry for $1.50bf I'll stop by and check it out next time I go to Green Bay. I'll shoot you a PM.

I just paid $1 foot for GOOD cherry logs (I had to go pick them up 15 minutes from home), think I'll look him up too  :D

I hope I can sell green roughsawn cherry for at least $1 a foot, but maybe  more if you're buying logs at that.

Yeah, they were 26" clean and straight, verneer almost.  To me, that is a good price  to pay. These folks have good markets for logs, so you gotta step up or they'll take'm elsewhere. All depends who your buyer is and how long you wanna sit on them.

I just traded the 1,000bf pile for some cedar glider chairs. Better to get something I need out of it than give it away.

I'm an hour north east of Green Bay.

Getting the right  price for those wide cherry boards will depend on who/where you advertise them.  Also, when selling on the "net", pictures are worth a thousand words.  Post pics wherever you advertise.
