This may be a little "heady" for some but,.....My 8 year old has begun looking at my responses to threads, and even before this I have thought about how when we're gone that this place (and others your visit and post to) will convey much about our personalities and our personal "bent" on things. Unless our grandfathers, grandmothers and ancestors were prolific writers of some type, say a newspaper columnists or such thing, we would never be able to "look back" at there opinions and views on things, we could only rely on memory. Something to ponder, that if say I departed before my two youngest came of age, they could look back at how I interacted and thought about many things,............. Jeff, no pressure to keep an archive forever or anything, but just some thoughts.

Everything is here from day one and I guard it zealously. I began to think about what might happen to the data beyond me while I was recovering in the hospital the end of last year. I've not formulated any plans yet, but I do realize that the information contained within the Forestry Forum database and galleries is irreplaceable to the Forest Products community, especially the sawmill sector, and in my view, priceless.

There is no pressure to keep it forever, because that is simply what must occur.

Well, let me say you've been doing well to guard it so far. I agree there are a lot of topics with some good information. ;D ;)

Does it count to say that I look to the forum for info more than I use google itself?  Without the stored info of the forum I'd be lost for words to say the least.  Keep the info guarded with your life Jeff, you have created a masterpiece that is one of a kind and totally irreplaceable.  Keep up the good work.  8)  8)  8)

It is a great resource and represents years of Jeff's "work product". I wonder if perhaps some Govt agency could archive it for posterity, like the Library of Congress? As much as I dislke Govt, seems a good method to let Jeff off the hook for putting it into perpetuity. Just a thought, there is enough trade related info here it would be worth a try.

Here's where you can find archives of most websites from long ago...

http://web.archive.org/web/*/www.forestryforum.com

I made the link to the forestry forum, but you can search any old website.

That site is relatively worthless as an archive. It would be like only finding a broken shard of pottery and a chunk of timber at an ancient shipwreck.
