Hello Gentleman
Well we have broken in our mill with trees around the property and we are now going to cut up some chestnut and other logs that we pulled out of a lake we recently dredged.
They were left in the deep end when the lake was built in 1878 looking for any advice on proper milling. Going to cut up 1 inch planking for the inside of the house. We have been using the Cooks super sharp bldes and very happy with them with water for lube sometimes some washer fluid.
                                                                           Thanks for any replies

It will be interesting.  I have an upcoming  job sawing cypress that was intentionally stored in a pond for the last 15 years.  He is dredging them out now.  We can share experiences.

Welcome to the Forestry Forum catskillpond.

Do I take it from your name that you are in the area of the Catskill Mtns?

I think that if I were you, I would try to get all the info on recovering and sawing water-stored logs that I could, before I did much sawing.

Sometimes logs that have been water stored for (in this case, over a century) an extended amount of time are worth big $$$$$!

Thanks for the input we are going to saw one and someone who viewed  this forum is coming this week from a boat company to look and maybe purchase the logs. We cut the end of one of the chestnut in about a 3 foot amazing the grain in the wood we flipped it over and cut some flitches  hard cutting

                                                                        Thanks Again Scott

Thanks Chuck'
If we can return the favor please let us know we sawed two logs the grain of the wood was amazing we returned 12 logs to our pond and sold the rest to a firm that builds conference tables and a company that makes boats.

When cutting we used wedges to take the tension of the blade and we are air drying them in the barn.
                                                                          Thanks
