The squirrels are hungry, and have taken to staring at me through the window

I am looking for an inexpensive source for unsalted peanuts to feed the local wildlife around my home.  Right now the best price I have found is at Costco for just over $1.00 a pound ($5.39 for five pounds), and would like to lower the cost.  Feed stores in the area have higher prices even if I was to purchase in larger quantities. 

Any ideas would be very helpful.

I think you are doing about as good as you will find on the retail  market.  Even the farmers, who sell there peanuts on the Internet, are getting 2.50-5.00 dollars a lb.  At those rates, I'd buy the Costco peanuts myself.

Be glad that your squirrels are just staring !! The squirrels around here are trying to get in    One in particular, runs around on the porch and throws its self against the sliding glass door. It fell off the door handle a couple of times this morning  :D
Sometimes I feed them stale nuts I have around and sunflower seeds are pretty cheap.

Darla lets them in the house, like one place we lived at there was a few of them that would come right up to the couch and look for the freebies
She had the pet rats running all over the place, they were cute

It has babies. I saw her move them out of the little woodstove next to my entry door.

I have to harvest a few of them every other year, they sack cones from every pine and spruce tree in the yard and shell them in the buildings.  >:(

A rival squirrel killed off a family of squirrels last summer. One day found 3 dead young ones in the yard.

I feed my chickens and squirrels cracked corn from Tractor Supply Co.  50 lbs. $9.97.  The chickens free range.  I saw three squirrels from one nest begin as babies this spring.  Venturing out, playing chase and exploring.  There are several large oaks to traverse from our yard to a neighbors yard.  I keep fresh water in a bird bath I sat on the ground and not on a pedestal.  They are very enjoyable to watch.  Other birds come by also to graze at the Burchfield Buffet.
