I went out to look at a job today and here is a small pile of logs.  One magnolia in front and the rest is maple.  I need some advice on this one. ???

The client and his builder are looking to get one maple mantle piece, two maple posts, and a bar top out of the magnolia, then whatever we can get out for 4/4 for trim boards.

I have not cut magnolia before, and this log has a ton of knots.  The log is just over 15 and will be cut to 10'6", just before the big knot in the foreground.  What is the best way to cut the magnolia?  Put the knots at 45 degrees? ???

The maple also has knots, but most of the pieces have the knots on one side.  For these I was planning on putting the knots at 45 degrees and not have them on the face.  Does that sound like a good plan? ???
