Boiled peanuts are a Southern delicacy.  Best boiled from a fresh harvest of green peanuts.  Later once old man winter has set in parched in the oven is the way to go.  Like grits, you love em or hate em.    :D :D :D

I was recently in Florida and found a fruitstand that sold 25lb bags of raw peanuts.
Brought a bag home and sofar have boiled and put up 8 gallons! I canned half and froze half.
I am going to open a quart a month of the canned and see when they start to get slimy.
Not that slimy bothers me, I just like doing reasearch.  ;D

Green would have been best to boil but these are working fine.

I spent eight months in Southern Georgia (Tift county) for work a couple years ago. I tried boiled peanuts and really liked them. I also like them neat.... just a little salt. I was down there for the peanut and cotton harvests and it was really cool to see.

I enjoyed my time there, I made some good friends and enjoyed some of the storied "Good ol' Southern Hospitality". I would definitely accept another assignment down south. I actually miss it.

I've tried to like boiled peanuts.  I wanted to like them.  I even tried them with Cajun spices and a couple other flavors.  I just can't do it  ::)  I do like grits  ;) ;D

I live in the Upper Coastal Plain, geography wise, and this is the northern end of peanut country.  We had a quota and grew peanuts on the farm.  We would go straight to the field and pull up the peanuts, pick them off, and boil them in a large, black, lard pot.  Actually, it was a social event.  You would invite your friends (and as many girls as possible  :)) to a "peanut boiling" as it took several hours for them to get ready and us teenagers could hang out and do what teenagers do.  That was the old days.  I don't see any "peanut boilings" anymore.  Too many video games to be played, I guess.

One of my favorite "peanut" memories was dove hunting.  A peanut field was the best place to dove hunt.  After the peanuts were dug and threshed, the doves loved the bare ground and fed on the peanuts that did not make it into the trucks.  I would take the peanut vines (peanut hay) and construct a horseshoe shaped blind in the field.  Invariably, there were a few dried peanuts still on the vines, and I would eat them while waiting for the doves to come.

Jon, you are an OK guy in my book  ;D.

Lived in Alabama 20 years, had boiled peanuts just out of the pot several times and to me it was sort of like boiled okra. Slick, slimey, and lacking in too many ways for me to want more. Now grits is another story, yummy!!!!

Thanks Danny,  ;D

My mother was a southern belle from from Allendale SC and then moved to Port Wentworth GA, we went down to Port Wentworth every summer to visit family. I remember my first peanut boil, Mom told me not to worry if I didn't like them, then a couple of hours later she had to remove me from the table.  :D

Boiled peanuts are not for me either.

I tried them when I was in school at England AFB, near Alexandria, actually tried them a couple of times, just didn't care for them.

Kind of tasted like a dried shell-bean.

As a displaced Yankee I probably  shouldn't like them but I do ;D But they have to be done right. You can't just take peanuts you buy in the store and boil them.
Still don't like grits though.

I was born and raised in CT (but moved South as quick as I could). I liked boiled peanuts and grits from Day One. I like to stop at the rattiest place I can for peanuts- preferably with the sign spelled wrong ('P-nuts' with a backwards 'N'). They'll be swimmin' in a big iron pot full of BLACK water. Those always seem to be the best. You're not an honorary Southerner until you can eat boiled peanuts while cruising down Hwy 19 in north FL, tossin' the shells out the window.

Sometimes I make 'em plain; sometimes I punch 'em up with garlic and red pepper flakes.
I hope my ship comes in before the dock rots!
