Hi All,

One of the roller guides on my 2003 Timberharvester seized up so I'm replacing both.  I can get new guides from Cooks Saw but I cannot get the old ones off the shafts.  I've removed the spring clip but can't get them apart.  I'm sure others have had to deal with replacing roller guides so any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Good penetrating oil might help or heat but if the inner race spun on the shaft you'll have to cut it off with a torch.   Most likely they're just rusted as the friction between the blade and guide wheel wouldn't burn them on.  Steve

Since I am mechanically challenged and have a poorly equipped shop, I used to take my guide rollers back to TH and have them change them out. They would use a 20 ton shop press to press the old bearings out and press the new ones on. There were times when they would apply a huge amout of pressure before it suddenly "popped" and slid off so I would think the only way to replace them is with a heavy press.

Nope, easy fix-just get out your 4 1/2 angle grinder and grind off the TH tilt adjusters and then weld on the COOKS tilt adjusters with there guides-cost is about 129.00 per side-COOKS tilt adjusters are well very good.....Bert

Chris, you must know someone thats handy that owns a puller.Or you could rent one, once you get the old ones off clean up the shaft with emery cloth lube and tap on the new. Frank C.

Thanks to everyone for all the advice.

I was originally planning to do just as Bert suggests, cut off the TH tilt adjusters and weld on the Cooks, but then I figured I'd try and get the old roller guides off and replace just them.  At this point I think I'll rent a puller and give that a try.  I'll let you know how it goes.  I have a pile of walnut and cedar logs that I need to get cut and stacked so I can't ponder this for too long.
