I am holding a two day weekend workshop in RI. This coming weekend on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm and 9 am to 4 pm on Sunday.

I wasn't going to say anything here as I had a full class of students between the host and his employees/helper(s) and one other contractor and one other student but the one other contractor from RI let me know that he can't make it this weekend.

So I have one opening or maybe two at the most.

I know this is a last minute thing and because of that the fee is quite low.
The location is in Foster, RI at a farm/workshop of a builder/fireman.

If you were interested in attending then send me an email at jrsawmill (at) verizon (dot) net and the first one who confirms with a deposit by paypal is in.

We will be learning square rule joinery layout of a mortise in a post for a tie beam tenon. The tenon that will fit this post mortise. And a brace that goes between the tie and the post.

It looks something like this:

The standard joints for a tie beam to join a post and the brace that connects them as shown above as wood, inside the grayed out frame.

We will be working with oak timbers.

You will need to bring your own timber framing layout and cutting tools.

Map and other details will be provided to a confirmed student.

Thanks for reading this.

PS. If there is enough interest in coming to a three day weekend workshop to be held in southern NH in the fall on a three day holiday weekend then post your interest here.
And I'll work out the details to have a barn where we can do a workshop inside and learn basic timber framing layout and cutting of joints.
Whatever you do, have fun doing it!

I have one who has said he'd be interested in the Fall workshop.

I have started a list.

Who else would like to be on the list?

Will this class be held during the fall colors in Maine so the leaf peepers can double up on the fun in that beautiful country?

Not sure yet, I have to contact my friend who has a nice barn for the workshop.

He has said in the past he would host one.

We'll sit down and talk soon, I'll call him and set up a date, because I have to see him about a couple of other matters.

And when we're there we'll both look at the calendar and see which weekend will be best.
