Going after cow or bull?  I've heard moose isn't good to eat certain times of the year.   Good luck!

Your going to need the truck to pick it up and bring it home  ;D .

Good luck to you guys!

No moose hunt for me this year. I've been drawn twice, and been on many hunts as help......none this year. Though I am going up to Aroostook the first week of October for ducks and geese.

Never needed a loader on any hunt....but it would make it easier!

I remember about 20 years ago, when my friend Burleigh Lucas out of Woolich was drawn...he brought his skidder, pulp truck and a crew! Shot the moose in a chopping, yanked it out with the 440, held it off the ground with the loader and gutted it, loaded it on the truck and headed for Greenville.......cost him some money, but no one strained too hard, and they had fun!

All the big bullwinkles are in Alaska :)
Turbosawmill M6 (now M8) Warrior Ultra liteweight, Granberg Alaskan III, lots of saws-gas powered and human powered :D

Possibly one reason for that, if it's true, is hunting pressure. I have some old guide photos of the day when men walked and canoed in the bush and there were some pretty huge moose taken down in NB. ;D

Every fall when the air chills and is so fresh I get the fever to go somewhere, moose huntings a rush for sure when they come crashing though the under brush responding to a call. Good luck and give us a story to dream about   ;D

True. The Alaskan moose grows larger than our Canada moose, which is the sub-species we have here. I've seen some big ones, one we killed on one hunt dressed 1020 cleanly dressed, everything out, even heart and liver. Probably 1300-1400 live on the hoof. Only had 49 inch antler spread........but I've seen some a lot bigger antlered.

Even if you don't find a big'un pictures and the story behind them will be required  ;).  Hope you have a great time!

I have old NB guide photos in this guide book of spreads of 69-1/2 to 72 inches. One photo a fellow is holding a set and it's well over his head. Those are monsters. One was actually called the King of Clearwater, 62 inch spread, shot by a sport who was hunting with a guide that was a relative on mother's side. An uncle to her grandfather. ;) The moose hunt has been pretty much regulated for over 100 years here. They have harvest records in the book back to the early 1900's, even shows caribou and deer harvest #'s. The woodland Caribou died out by 1920, TB and brain worm. Invasive deer brought disease.

We always heard about the occasional 72" moose. I never heard a serious claim of a wider rack in Maine. I'm considering posting my favorite moose joke, but I may put it in "jokes and internet fun stuff." If I get around to it. . .
