Hi , I have made some posts here and there on FB and here but maybe I was rude in not introduceing myself ! I live in Hannibal N.Y. Back in 1985 or so I met a guy named Dave ,he had this orange sawmill and was cuttin lumber like crazy ! Most awsome thing I ever saw ! I remember workin for a guy who did dirt work as a side line and he told me we had to go truck a bunch of gravele and make a huge site for a big building on the corner of Blyth rd and RT 104 . So we did, turns out it was a wood-mizer dealer ! And this guy Dave I had met was gonna be in charge . Well fast forward a bunch of years now I have been somewhat of a regular up at the shop . I have seen every modle year mill delivered and sold that anyone can imagine ! At times I have been asked to weld repair a mill that was broke or bent or whatever ,so I got to know mills prety good ! My relationship there has been one of the most positive things in my life , I have learned so much and seen so much . I have tailed on customer demo's and stickered lumber ! Seen the birth of resharp and the evolution of blades . My good friend has taken the time to mentor me on so many aspects of milling and how it all works ! I think that education over the years would rival any formal collage education goin ! I don't claim that I "know " anything about milling or Wood-Mizer as a whole but I do know this ... they are a great company ! They have great people all over ,their mills are second to none at any price point ! And the day I ran my first mill ever I knew that was the one I had to have ! So 10 years after I now own a 2002 LT 40 super hyd with all ! the bells ! The Kabota engine is what does it for me ! The new Yanmars are awsome no doubt ! but I am a sentamental sort and my mill is far beyond everything I could ever dream of ! I am on this forum to learn ! After sawing my first custom order I reolized just how much I need to learn ! Who would have thunk over run pile LOL ! At 51 I have decided time to run ! Time to mill ,time to live the life that I have so deeply admired for so many years ! As for Wood-Mizer ,I am not just a brand loyalist ! I have been around and seen it ! Wood-Mizer is like liveing a "comin home movie " What a cool ride !

Great to hear your story! Good to hear from another LT-40 club member. There are quite a fair few of us on here. You are in great company, the likes of Magic Man, Piney Woods, and PostonLT40HD are some of our other noteworthy club members, and many others as well.

I don't have a Woodmizer dealer very close to me. It's a little inconvenient, but I guess if there were a dealer nearby, there would all of a sudden be too much sawmill competition here! If they put a dealer near me, I would have to go work for the dealer, instead of milling.  :-\

scully,Now that's a Christmas present. What's the plan for the new mill? Isn't it great to saw logs with your mill?

Sawing logs  love it ! I think its great thearapy ! but my bigger plans = mill and build evreything I own , I would like to maintain inventory of flitches as well as some hardwoods ,I want to stay portable for now because I do need to earn a buck with this thing or it ain't gonna work out to well. I am leaning towards rustic building but on a custome and small scale I.E. 1 off bars or counter tops etc, with a blend of wood and steel all hand fabed etc. Just crazy artistic stuff . But yeh I just wanna saw for anyone who needs me to .

Great story!
Thanks for sharing.  Interesting you were there in 85 only a few years after their first sawmill and start up.
