I am using Firefox 16 and recently noticed that the revolving circle arrow keeps rotating after the web page has loaded.

A couple of the pages being accessed are research.widdit.com and installhit.com.

One web search talked about research.widdit.com being a virus.

I ran malwarebytes and it found nothing. I am running AVG.

Clicking on the X at the end of the address bar stops it.

Has anyone else noticed this?

There is no need to say 'unleaded regular gas'. It's all unleaded. Just say 'regular gas'. It's not the 70s anymore. (At least that's what my wife tells me.)

Deleted cookies. Still have the problem. Ran full AVG scan. Nothing found.

BTW, is this happening only when browsing this forum or happening at other sites, as well?

Happening with many sites, including FF, but not all. For example it doesn't happen with Google, but does with Yahoo.

I have been on certain sites that never seem to finish loading, and others that don't. I don't recall seeing any pages being accessed in the status bar though.

I am using Chrome but I have used Firefox in the past and have noticed the same thing.

It seems to happen more on pages with lots of pictures and animations, java, etc. It doesn't happen with google, because google has a simple web page. It's hard to say if you are experiencing the same thing though.

Here are two messages I posted on Malwarebytes forum:

Using XP SP3 and Firefox 16... (11/12/2012)

When using firefox browser I noticed last week that the rotating circle in front of the web name in each tab continues to rotate after the page has loaded--the indication being something is still trying to load.

At the bottom, left of the screen I see waiting for widdit.com, then waiting for installhit.com. Installhit is mainly what is keeping the rotating circle active.

Yesterday's version of Malwarebytes found nothing.

On avast's website if you enter widdit there is a thread. Widdit (username) claims that their software is benign and directs to their web page which he claims has removal instructions. It doesn't and using the provided link to see if it is on my computer claims it is not.

Firefox lists no addins or extensions apart from what is normal for my firefox. Do Not Track is installed.

It does not appear to be a problem with IE.

I did not install this on my computer and would like to get rid of it. How?

Well, I think I may have found the solution. I found a plug-in / add-on in Firefox Options | Addons called Complitly and I disabled it. Later I got a message asking if I wanted to remove it. I said Yes and now it seems that Firefox is no longer waiting for widdit.com and installhit.com. See:
REMOVED

Spybot has a write up that I could not understand so I ignored it. I never got deep enough to know if they are trying to sell a removal tool. ?

Doug, I removed the link. Not sure if you thought it through, but you were directing people to a site by posting that link that you say was responsible for a plugin installed without your knowledge that you wanted to get rid of.
I can change my profile okay. No errors. If you can,t remove all the extra info in other fields and try.
