It is always exciting to head off into new territory.  Good luck with the journery, Dale.
Let us know how this new venture is progressing this fall.
I am in the pink when sawing cedar.

Great! A good selection. Shotgun and I will be attending our 50th class reunion at Michigan Tech this Aug 4-6 along with the Forestry Schools 75th Aniversary.

My time is up at Michigan Technological University, and my Master of Forestry is complete.  Now I just have to find work.

Any prospects?
What did you like the most of the studies you were involved with, and what interests would you like to persue?
Are you open to locate anywhere, or have some preferred stomping ground you'd like to stay in?

It may be that my sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others

Moving is not much of an option.  From the start I have wanted to work for the State of Michigan managing state forests neart where I live (Alpena, MI). If my wife was willing I would be more than willing to relocate to Wisconsin, Minnesota, or other areas that catch my interest. If I am unable to get a position with the State of Michigan I would like to work for a consulting forester for a couple of years and then work on my own as a consulting forester after I have gained some experience.

I ended up taking 18 courses and all of them were valuable and interesting.  They each complemented each other so it is hard to say which ones I liked best. They were all very valuable.  The two electives that I took were Wildland Fire and Consulting Forestry.

My application is in for the state and I am going to meet with a consulting forester Thursday to discuss possibly doing some work for him.

I appreciate the advice, comments, and support that you all have given me along the way.

Ron, I sat next to you during the second half of the ACF conference at Shanty Creek last February.

Thanks All!

Yes, I remember, and was glad to see you there.

You should also become a member of SAF if you aren't already. With your Masters degree, you should now be able to get a forestry position with the Michigan DNR or the USFS though one needs to be more mobile in USFS employment for their professional positions. Keep active applications on file with both however. Also watch the employment listings from the agencies that may be announced here on the Forum from time to time.

Good luck.  Remember that hard work creates good luck.  Don't give up on getting a job.  Might take awhile.  Did I say, don't give up?
