I am looking for a saw shop in Connecticut that can do a muffler mod on my Stihl MS391.  Any suggestions?

Not sure that you'll get a shop to do that for you, they generally don't mod stock saws. Maybe a specialty place would. Where about in Connecticut you at? I'm in utica area of NY, could help ya out of you wanted to come this way. Few parts from Bailey's and your in business, around im $10 I think.

I may be mistaken but I believe it's contrary to Stihls' franchise agreement for any of their dealers to deviate in any way the designs of their products .Which includes carving the baffles out of a muffler which is not rocket science as some would allude to .

Not hard to open up the muffler, make sure the hi speed is enrichened a bit to compensate. Just don't get caught with it on public land. FWIW, other than more noise, I am not sure there would be a lot gained with the 391.

You are probabley correct on that .Altough a lot of people have alluded to making significant gains by altering these new engine designs few have actually suceeded in spite of what might be said over the internet and on varius web forums .

I have however seen one model 441 that did have some  gains but I think it's the exception to the rule .

There's one rule that try as they might they cannot over come .To make power you have to burn fuel but these designs were made to conserve fuel .

Sooooooo if a guy wants a hot rod this is probabley not the model to start from .
