Does anyone know of a good online parts outfit in the US that has 230 tj clutch parts ??. Or can it be matched up to an automotive clutch out of anything else ??. We have alot of problems with throw out bearings going and once a year they seize up and wreck the preassure plate. Poor bearing quality is all it is and I am looking for some feed back on all these issues.  It gets to expensive these days to buy all new parts every year due to bad throw bearings.  Any help would be great thanks alot

The bearing failure is most likely due to to not enough lubrication. On that machine you can't get at it to grease it after it is all installed. For a continued problem such as yours I would take out the grease nipple in the throw out bearing and screw in a grease gun hose. Then put it out through the hole in the inspection cover (sort of on the side of the bell housing and already has a hole in it)now when it's all assembled you can grease it on a regular basis.Hope this helps.

If the clutch isn't adjusted properly well cause this, or a operator riding his foot on the clutch petal all the time. Bad habit, i've seen guys do it driving a vehicle, throw out bearing don't last long.

I got clutch parts from the local auto parts store.

If i remember correctly those are Lipe clutches, the one you want is the disc with the ceramic pucks on it. the only reason the throwout bearing would fail is no freeplay in the linkage,or resting your foot on it. Don

A ceramic button disc is the toughest you can put in. When i worked at the local New Holland dealer we would replace the standard disc with that. Wouldnt slip till it was wore out. Problem we had was the ceramic wore into the flywheel faster and usually had to resurface the flywheel every clutch replacement. Loader tractors were tough on clutchs. My 225 had just a standard button disc. Was fairly cheap thru Lyons equipment. I changed mine 3/4 of a mile back in the woods. Fairly easy to do. Personally I would put the standard back in.

Does anyone know what a 230 cluch matches up to in the Auto world. ?? A guy might save a bit of cash rather than going to a forestry outfit.  Thanks everyone for your help

Sorry I can't answer your question first hand but I'd go to your favorite auto parts store and ask someone you know/or been there a long time, 353's are pretty common so it has to match something else.  Also I had an old pickup that tore up the fingers on the clutch because the input shaft the throwout bearing was on (around) got all gunked up over the years and would not let it release, might check that and make sure it is clean and lubricated.

There are many clutch outfits you can send it to and they will rebuild it. :) Price is much better than exchange or buying one in most cases. ;D Works well for old obsolete parts or unidenifiable obsolete parts ;D Some of them if you are local can do this during the day and warrenty comes with it :snowball:

Take the pressure plate, throw out bearing and clutch disk in to Napa, they should match it up with what machines and vehicles that use it.

I personally wouldn't run a button clutch again. Its hard to deck with, push trees with, theres no easing in to it. The skidder well start to jerk, if you step on the throttle it'll lunge ahead. Theres no slipping the clutch, like were used to doing. When working with a faller its very dangerous.

I wish we had good parts guys up here in any store. They cant even cross refrence a timberjack U joint. Very bad now . we need the old school guys back that could match it up alot by eye

20 yrs ago i could get parts from any major parts store. Thats a standard u-joint, i don't understand whats going on.
When i went in, if he didn't recognize the part, he'd go back an get a big cross reference book out of a stack of them, seals, bearings, ect. Then if he couldn't find it he get on the phone, i never head we, don't have it or can't find it.

A little off subject but yet along the same lines, I had the master cylinder go out on the clutch of my combine this fall, ran to the parts store just before they closed and didn't say anything but "I need one of those old single barrell master cylinders".  The kid behind the counter looked at me kinda confused like and started asking questions, the older guy I deal with all the time started laughing in the back office and asked me what I was working on, then told the kid to look up 1960 something Chevy car it should be right.  It was  ;D.

See a good parts guy knows what to do. Now they cant cross reference a Timberjack U joint. The Napa my home town cant even get the right clutch for my 94 ford pick up. The guy ask me is it a 10 or 12 inch. I said I dont know your the parts guy. Even with my truck VIN # to serch with they didnt know. So I went online and ordered from the states. Even friction brake and clutch here at home didnt know. A good parts guy is so nice to have around but are a dieing breed for sure.

A lot of those old parts guy went home to thier "old" stuff and used it and played with all that stuff. Now those counter guys go home and watch TV or play games.

A lot has changed  LJ48 and not for the better. What these people are describing is quite normal Some of these parts men only know a number. around here we always say we have to look it up for them!!!! For a lot of stuff i go to specific places or order they specilize in the items (like flathead ford parts etc.)  Now after <20 years the item is obsolete!!!!
