We put a piece of cypress on the mill for the first time and slabbed it out. Then we put the next bigger Oak log on the mill to slab it, along with a new silvachrome blade. We made a few slabs till the drive belt blew up on us, it was in bad shape. This old mill only had 1 V belt on it, going to try HD and see if they have one like a riding mower deck belt that will do it. Since my mill has this custom engine on it a factory belt wont do.

Too bad about the belt.  I like the slabs.

I would try your local auto parts store on the belt. Most stock a good supply of v belts. Nice slabs.

Nice slabs, what are your plans for them?

Since you were sawing wide slabs, your drive belt was probably slipping which caused it to blow.  Hopefully you will have it up and running quickly.   :)   You will not have to look for a new belt but once, because next time you will know where to go.   ;D

Well I looked at this custom rig some more today, pulled the engine off, removed the engine cradle and bushings (what was left of them). Cut the custom mounts off the cradle with a cutting wheel and repaired any issues. I am looking for a more correct engine for this rig, looking like a new 23 vanguard might be the one, reasonable price, lightweight and it looks like the new ones have an automatic idle down feature.  Any advise?
