I was cranking my lil saw yesterday and just before it fired it seemily locked up, cant' pull the cord, and ideas?
only have a few chain saws I'm not suppose to use, but will at times, one dog Dolly, pretty good dog, just not sure what for yet,  working on getting the gardening back in order, and kinda thinking on maybe a small bbq bizz,  thinking about it,

Well I would pull the starter off of the saw and see if it moves freely.  Look at the flywheel and make sure nothing is stuck to the magnet.   Try turning the saw over by hand with the flywheel.   If none of that does it, then pull the muffler and look into the port and see if anything is bad.   Pull the spark plug and look down the hole with a flash light.   Report back.

Does sound like the starter rope and cogs. Hope that is all it is.

If it never started, did you flood it and get a hydraulic lock?

This is what I first suspected, and hope this is the case, although I have never had this much difficulty starting the saw, I will work on it this week end and find out,  thanks

Some of those little Poulans used a plastic starter pulley that could snarl up the starter rope in such a mess it acted like the thing swallowed a rock .

Had a guy bring in one locked up the other day. Just starter rope tangled around the plastic pulley was all his was.

Good thing he brought it over though. He thought the idle screw was one of the recoil screws and it was just laying inside there undone.  smiley_dizzy

Amazing post, I was in a hurry the other day, two other saws, so I just grabbed and sawed. The insight has been good from you guys!  So here is what it was,

Thanks guys, this is a lil fellow, but kinda nice when in small stuff, lots of centimental value as well, bought it at a fund raiser for my now passed sister in law,    david

Another point to make .That little screw you are suppossed to use to tie down the rope end  has a tendency to chew up the nylon rope .I remove them to file 13 and knot the rope end with a figure 8 knot ..

Hey Al,, yea, I defintenly stretch the cord in the few pulls I did before I quit.  I think these saws are almost the throw away variety for sure, but not this one,  it really cuts good for what I need when I need it, if you know what I mean. thanks man,  have a good one.  david
