Hi Lud, your concern about the pinch points is a valid one. Since the methods, hardware, and finish are all accurate to the early 19th century, I cannot imagine putting a modern soft closer on the chest. But believe it or not, there was actually technology available to our forefathers that surely prevented many a small finger from getting pinched - it's called a lock ;)

I think the slow closer is for the kids too.
That looks real nice. I have not been out much lately the last few years,but that type of finish,paint was big seller here for a while. We stopped at one shop and they was sanding the corners for an "old" look. Seem like green and red I saw the most. Than a stencil would be painted on it too.
