The lantern stand is nice but I love your topiary!

Norm,
Those were labeled as "Boulevard Cypress" at the nursury. We call them the "Dr. Suess Trees."  They just got a haircut last week.  :)

Sandhills,
Thanks for noticing the garden.  It's been a work in progress for several years.  It's been so blistering hot that I've had a hard time keeping it all watered.  A simple irrigation system might need to be installed for the garden.

Notice the cedar poles with the baskets?  I've actually had somebody ask how I made those. :D :D :D

PC,
The porch was an addition we added last year.  The truss' are just toe-nailed 2x stock.  But it does look extra fancy. :D

It all looks extra fancy.  This thread should be censored so that my wife does not see your garden and landscape.  Oh, and the lantern stand is very nice, too ;D.

Chris, no heat issues on the paint from the lantern?

Ummmm, I don't know. ::)

My guess is that the lantern has plenty of room breath. There is about 4-5" between the shade and the legs.  But above the lantern will bet the brunt of the heat.  I guess we'll see this weekend.  The stand is already packed away in the trailer, otherwise, I would try it out.

If so, a simple wrap of aluminum foil would provide an adequate heat shield.

The tripods didn't spontaneously combust! :D

After burning the lanterns for several hours, the wood around and above the lantern was cool to the touch.

The two lantern tripods came in handy when we played cornhole in the evening on our camp out this past week.  But one tripod was put into a much more important role as the week wore on...

Good news and I was hoping that would be the outcome.  Looks like your tripods know how to multi-task.   :)

I'll bet that some of the other troops will have tripods soon.

Well at least he has time for his coffee (little yellow cup)  ;D

Awesome lantern collection and nice storage case. I too was fooled by your workmanship. Thought it was a plastic case from Coleman.  ;D :D

My grandfather has several guide camps and lots of Coleman lanterns. The style I remember was from the 60's-70's as I was often with my grandparents in those camps then and this was nearing their retirement years. We always carried a Coleman in the camping gear when fishing and hunting in later years. I have only one, which I bought a few years ago, came with a case.  I guess the lanterns in the camps, stayed with the camps when he sold them. :)

SD,
That yellow cup was for a tiny little Japanese maple seedling I dug up for Jeff on his visit.  How's it doing, Jeff?

WDH,
The pin oak tree is under quite a bit of stress.  This past year we had it evaluated and treated in hopes of saving it.  The drought we had a few years ago then the heavy rains that followed the next summer caused root stress.  The perimeter of the tree is leafless and the rest of the leaves are not the right color according to the expert.  It's a wait and see kind of thing now. :(

During the last couple of weeks, I have seen several Oaks that look like Fall.  The few leaves that are there are turning brown.  This Summer, we will loose many.   :-\

Last summer the popple that dropped it's leaves early is about dead, just some life on the top of the crown. All the side crown is dead, dried out and breaking off in the wind. We never even had dry weather.

I'm afraid it just flat out disappeared. All I can figure is a rabbit. I had used the top of a plastic pot as a barrier to keep track of it, and one day it was just gone.  :-\

Hey, like minds think alike. I also have a Coleman solar shower and made a tripod today. Mine is not as tall as yours, shorter for in a tent. It will also double as a rack to dry clothes with a propane heater. I used some thinner maple paired together (6 pieces for 3 legs), with a brass ring at the top and piece of steel rod between the pairs. With 50'lbs of water bearing down the tripod is very steady. ;D

Assembled

With brass ring fastened on top.

The sticks were actually all made, but recycled from loom warping sticks (were a little warped after I had milled them out) that I replaced as I was putting my loom together a year ago.

Yes, I did test it and it's nice and sturdy.

I like the ring on top holding everything together, swampdonkey. Its hard to lose parts when everything is connected into one unit. :)

SwampDonkey

Yeah, just fold it up when storing and it's all right there when ya need it. I'm going to test it as a dry rack with my new space heater in the tent in a day or so. Pin some wet clothes onto it and see how long it takes to dry.  :)
