Very cool. Had a similar idea when cleaning up a surface of a red oak log at the mill and saw the sunlight coming through it. Cut a bunch of thin sheets, thinking sand and bend. Now, I must convince the wife I need a big sander. ;D

I saw an article in Wood Magazine I think, describing making a lamp shade from veneer. It wasn't turned though...

I've seen them made square with veneer, just a wood frame and 4 sheets of veneer. but that one in the video is unique....
