If anyone is using one of these, what type of rope are you using?

Kevin

1/2 inch, three strand, tree master by Samson.
Put a small shackle on the end and pull on the running end as you winch.

Thank you sir.
What do you think of the puller?  I've had mine for most of a year but haven't even bought rope for it yet.

Kevin

I think they are fantastic!
I set my winch up with about twenty five to thirty feet of tree master and will rig with 1/2 inch stable braid that's 150 feet long, add a friction hitch on the stable braid and slide it any where on the rope so this way I have ample adjustment.
I also have a set of double blocks that  can be added to the system for MA.

Thanks Kevin.  I need to get out & put the thing to use moving some firewood logs soon!

Hello Vance in Alaska, Maasdam is a good little winch, use good judgement in useing it and it will last a long time! I would use rope that comes or is sold by Maasdam, yes it is 1/2" also has an exta cord that lets you know when you have reached or exceeded the working limits, a red strand that pops up and lets you know when your near the limits. Sold  several back when I was in business to Fire Dept for rescuse , also to many customers. The Trenton falls Gorge, many unarthorized site see'ers got themselfs in trouble used these in recuse. The biggest advantage this Maasdam winch has is you can use what ever lenght rope you need. I still have on hand 150ft and 450ft lenghts, new never used! They were designed for one 1 ton max, good tool Good rope  like Kevin mention wiil work fine also.
If you need a more rugged unit I would move up to The cable POWER_PULLS, extra care pays off as to cable life, it is only 5/16" a cable and it will mess-up easiely. 1 and 2 ton units with 20,30,40ft of cable standard. Other than the cable they will take considerable abuse. Lots of good projects
were accomplished with hand tools only by our fore-fathers!

I have several Masdam rope pullers, tree master works fine in them,I use 1/2 inch safety blue made by New England. I put my rope in the tree with a throw bag use a running bowline, attach the masdam to a tree with tubular webbing and pull away.A prussic cord and a carabiner can be used as a safety if the rope puller should happen to fail.
