Replacing debarker assembly

The old debarker motor has been gone thru several times over the years and the arbor shaft was wallered out, so when the motor seized up I was not surprised to see the shaft was worn thru. Both arms were well worn as well so in October I ordered new arms and a motor assembled, the first Vertical arm was too long, next one was to short, the horizontal arm could not be duplicated either, so I took some shop time and ground off all the extra pieces on the new horizontal arm, then removed the pieces from the old arm and welded them onto the new arm and a fresh coat of paint toped it off.

Good to see you got the debarker replaced!

I would have guessed that it would have been "remove the old, install the new", done!

Harvey's sawmill is a prototype LT70.  It might have even been the first ever LT70.

It had an early version of the mark II debarker.
Many modifications over the years.

We were milling 20` doug fir and spruce, they were dirty logs.
The new upper arm needed longer adjusting bolts, and cylinoid for the debarker hydraulic pump was acting up, so when the log rolled on the mill with the saw head all the way up and back, bound up on the debarker. I just pulled the motor off till I get back home.

This three day trip up the coast has already added two more days milling for neighbor's.

Are you going to have enough blades to finish the trip??

Well I started with a box of new saws, got a fresh one on the mill and two in the box, should be enough to finish up tomorrows milling, running without a debarker adds up after a while, I would guess that it has cost about a box of saws at this point.
