What do you use to hold the fire brick in place inside the reaction chamber? I have used a 2000 degree mortar in a tube that needs to be redone each season, looking for suggestions.

I don't use anything other than gravity.

Some of mine have broken and have been discarded, others are loose and can tip over during cleaning.  I use nothing to hold them in place.
My father once said, "This is my son who wanted to grow up and become a doctor.  So far, he's only become a doctor."

Some of mine have also broken over time.  Fortunately, I have spares from removing the fire brick from the inside.

Just gravity for me.  Be sure to clean the chamber fully.  Floor and wall.  Any space under a brick or behind a brick fills with fly ash, build up and eventually topple the brick. or bricks.

All mine has stayed in place quite nicely and hasn't broken up on me....
